Syria Thought it was Israeli

Last I heard, a Syrian government official was explaining that they shot down the Turkish plane because, seeing they thought it was Israeli. When I heard this...I had one thought. Someone turned it into a photo, below - yup, this was exactly my thought (well, the part about them being able to shoot it down, anyway).
Shabbat shalom...

So i guess the planes which were shot down in droves by Egypt during you kippur war weren't israeli, either?

Dear Syria's Air Defence:
I tried looking up the word "droves" and while it seems to mean something along the lines of a whole heck of a lot, I didn't find any specific references to how many planes that would mean. I did, however, find this reference to numbers of planes shot down in Wikipedia for 1973:

"During the Yom Kippur War of October 1973, the Israeli Air Force shot down 334 enemy warplanes in air-to-air combat for the loss of only five of its own. A further 180 Arab aircraft were shot down or lost due to circumstances other than aerial combat. The IAF lost 104 aircraft, nearly all due to anti aircraft artillery or surface-to-air missile fire."

That comes to 514 Arab planes shot down as compared to 104 Israeli planes. I'm not sure that "droves" is the right word - considering as well, the fact that the war was started on Yom Kippur.

Yeah, 5 to 1 sounds about right...though I believe we easily beat that record in most other conflicts.

Yes it's a good record for anyone who isn't biased but it's a bad record for someone who said a downed plane can't be Israli plane
